Game of the Week
Arizona 40 New York (Giants) 34 (Overtime)
A wild week 2 game from Arizona started out slower than it finished, with a missed FG, 2 punts and FG in the first 4 possessions making it 3-0 Giants after the 1st quarter. After another Cardinals punt, the Arizona defence forced the first turnover of the game, turning that into 3 points to tie the game. Tyrod Taylor then quickly atoned for his turnover, marching the Giants down the field on a 75 yeard TD drive to make it 10-3. Another Giants FG made it 13-3 with 3:00 left in the half, and then Kyler Murray came to life with a 12-play touchdown drive of his own to make it 13-10 Giants at the half. The offences were the ones to make adjustments at the break, as the Giants came out and had a swift TD drive with 2 stright completions totalling 75 yards, and the Cardinals followed with a methodical 6 minute, 14 play drive but had to settle with a field goal to make it 20-13. The Cardinals D then forced a 3-and-out, and Murray continued to heat up with another long drive that was capped by Trey McBride’s 2nd touchdown of the game, and we were tied at 20-20 after 3. Tyrod Taylor answer right back in the 4th, capping another 75 yard drive with a quarterback sneak for a score to make it 27-20 Giants. Murray quickly led the Arizona offence back to midfield, but faced a 4th-and-2 in which the Giants D stuffed James Connor to take over at the 50, up 7, with 9 minutes left. Just 8 plays later Wan’Dale Robinson scored his second TD of the game to put the G-men up by 14 with 5:06 left. Shockingly, the Giants would not get the ball back again. Kyler Murray led the Cardinals on a quick 3-minute TD drive that featured two defensive penalties to cut the lead in half. But with the clock inside of 2 minutes the Caridnals opted to attempt an onside kick, despite still having 3 time outs., and they RECOVERED the onside kick. Kyler Murray went to work starting at midfield with 1:56 left, and led a dramatic touchdown drive that cocluded with a Hollywood Brown score with just 8 seconds left on the clock! With all the momentum on their side, the Cardinals considered a two-point conversion to win it, but decided to send the game to overtime with an extra point, tying the game at 34-34. That decision paid off, as the home side won the toss and the now sizzling Carinals offence went to work. Getting 32 yards from James Connor on the drive, and two key catches by Trey McBride, the Cardinal were setup at the Giants 11 yard line when Kyler Murray found Marquise Brown at the back of the end zone to complete a wild walk off win for the home team. What a game! Final score: ARI 40 NYG 34 (OT)
