Playoff Standings

Game of the Week

Green Bay 42 – Detroit 41

That’s not a typo. Green Bay and their challenged defense found a way to score 42 points. The weak Detroit defense (believe me, Green Bay can relate) helped a lot. This game really turned on two factors. Detroit lost three of their four RB’s to injury within the game, not overusage. And secondly a low odds 2-3 split interception from Jared Goff.
Despite the injuries, Detroit was moving the ball well by taking advantage of the Green Bay defensive cards and carefully rationing the remaining carries. Green Bay took a 42-28 lead shortly after the Goff interception and even up 42-35 had the ball near midfield towards the later part of the fourth quarter before having to punt. Detroit had an efficient drive finally scoring with :15 remaining to try and tie the game. Unfortunately, they lost their third RB on the touchdown play and would have faced OT with a low carries rated RB. Knowing this, Michael made the call to try and end it in regulation by going for two. They went for the pass and it fell incomplete on Goff’s card guessed right as Green Bay escaped with the win.
The victory tightens up the NFC North as the red hot Vikings now trail Detroit by only a game with Green Bay lurking another half game back but with a helpful 3-0 division record.
Good play calling by Michael as this game was a shootout in every sense of the word.
The Packers return home to face Dallas (4-4) next week while Detroit visits Chicago in another NFC North matchup.
