Game of the Week

Browns 23 Steelers 20
Injuries, penalties, and turnovers. Oh my!

I just finished reading an piece from The Athletic on the plight of 0-2 teams making thr playoffs. “None of the current 0-2 teams have better than a 44 percent chance to make the playoffs or a 26 percent chance to win their division. Seven of the nine teams already have a less than 20 percent chance.” YIKES!

It looked like Cleveland was going to be one of those teams. Despite the Browns leading 17-3 at halftime after a 59-yard FG at the gun, Pittsburgh battled back and Chris Boswell lined up for a 38-yard game-winner with :01 left but it sailed left before a dejected Acrisure Field home crowd. No Good!!!  The Steelers won the OT toss but Kenny Pickett undethrew George Pickens on a first play deep ball and it was picked off by Mike Ford in PGH territory. The Browns converted two first downs and brought on Riley Patterson for the 23-yard game-winner.

Flacco had a very good day throwing for 284 yards and a TD. Cleveland’s D absolutely hounded Steelers star wideout George Pickens all day. He finished with 1 catch (a TD) for 5 yards. All 3 PGH INTs (Two by Trubisky and the last, Pickett) were intended for Pickens. The first two by FS Juan Thornhill as a result of DTs. The second one led to a CLE score to go up 14-0 before the end of the first.

Najee Harris ran for 139 on 23 carries during the comeback and both PGH QBs completed over 60% with a good flat/run mix.

The Browns were hit with 10 penalties for 97 yards. Injuries! Jesus. Pittsburgh already came in short-handed and 9 starters combined were in street clothes by game’s end.

Cleveland hosts Tennessee in Week 3, while Pittsburgh visits Vegas.

It was a battle Peter! GG. After 2 weeks, AFC Central is:
Bengals 2-0
Browns 1-1
Ravens 0-2
Steelers 0-2 (edited)
