USFFL Week 7 Recap

Week 7 brought a string of late swings, comeback bids and statement performances as the regular season moved through its middle stretch.

Week 7 Recap

Peter Shibley’s Pittsburgh Steelers erased a 13-7 halftime deficit at Cincinnati, outscoring Jeff Wendlandt’s Bengals 30-10 after the break for a 37-23 road win. Aaron Rodgers threw five touchdown passes, the week’s high, and Pat Freiermuth caught two of them.

Rich Peers’ San Francisco 49ers held off Zack Kaplan’s Atlanta Falcons 39-27 behind Christian McCaffrey’s 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Atlanta stayed within one score late after Michael Penix Jr. left early and Kirk Cousins took over, but McCaffrey’s late receiving touchdown supplied the separation.

Jess Geller’s Carolina Panthers turned a 10-7 first-quarter deficit against Donnie Hastings’ New York Jets into a 45-17 win. Rico Dowdle ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while Bryce Young threw for 253 yards and two scores as Carolina produced 497 yards and 32 first downs.

Denis Ljung’s New England Patriots recovered from a 21-7 second-quarter hole to beat Paul Gilbert’s Tennessee Titans 42-21. TreVeyon Henderson’s three third-quarter rushing touchdowns sparked a 35-0 Patriots run, while Tony Pollard finished with 126 rushing yards for Tennessee.

David Mugmon’s Washington Commanders never trailed in a 38-33 division win over Bruce Mogg’s Dallas Cowboys. With Washington ahead 21-20 early in the fourth, Dallas returner KaVontae Turpin fumbled a punt near the goal line; the Commanders turned the recovery into Jayden Daniels’ touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin and kept the lead from there.

Elsewhere, Anthony Tangorra’s Los Angeles Chargers survived Tony Telleria’s Indianapolis Colts 26-21 despite Jonathan Taylor’s 222 rushing yards and two late touchdowns. Scott Mueller’s Green Bay Packers stayed unbeaten with a 20-6 win over John Carter’s Arizona Cardinals, sealing a tight 13-6 game with a fourth-quarter touchdown drive after converting fourth-and-one in their own territory.

Game of the Week: Los Angeles Rams 35, Jacksonville Jaguars 26

Scott Schumacher’s Los Angeles Rams won a wild road game against Joe Golden’s Jacksonville Jaguars, surviving a first half that featured six interceptions and a fumble. Jacksonville struck first and led 14-7 late in the opening quarter on Trevor Lawrence’s two rushing touchdowns. The Rams answered with a 28-6 run, taking a 21-14 halftime lead before Davis Allen’s second touchdown catch and Blake Corum’s touchdown run pushed the margin to 35-20.

Jacksonville had one last response on Parker Washington’s 44-yard touchdown catch, but the Rams’ ground game and defense held up. Kyren Williams carried 26 times for 139 yards and a touchdown, and Los Angeles outrushed Jacksonville 185-67. Matthew Stafford passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns; Allen caught two scoring passes. The win moved the Rams to 5-2 and dropped Jacksonville to 4-3.
