The Carolina Panthers held off the Miami Dolphins, 24-16, to improve to 3-2. Miami fell to 0-5 after a game in which its offense moved the ball but could not capitalize on its red-zone chances.
Game recap
Carolina took a 14-10 lead into halftime after Bryce Young found Mitchell Evans for a touchdown on the final play of the second quarter. The Panthers extended the margin in the third quarter when Rico Dowdle finished a short field with a one-yard touchdown run following a key interception.
Miami stayed within reach behind De’Von Achane, who ran for 151 yards and produced several big plays in the passing game. The Dolphins, however, came away with only three points across three red-zone trips and were turned away on a fourth-down attempt inside the Carolina five early in the fourth quarter.
Dowdle led Carolina’s ground game with 108 yards on 20 carries. Young completed 24 of 36 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. Carolina’s late field goal made it an 11-point game before Miami closed the scoring with a 43-yard field goal.
Coach Jess Geller’s Panthers next host the Dallas Cowboys. Miami will look for its first win after the 0-5 start.
