USFFL 22 – Week 11

All USFFL games wrapped up by Thursday, so I’m posting an early Week 11 recap. More close games this week with Cincinnati / Las Vegas, Dallas / Kansas City, Green Bay / Minnesota, New Orleans / Philadelphia, and San Francisco / Jacksonville all finishing with point differential of 3 points or less. In the AFC, all four division leaders (New England, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles) won their games to maintain their leads in the conference. In the NFC, Dallas’ win combined with New York’s loss closes the gap to 1 game in the East. New Orleans’ win pulled the Saints a game closer to Atlanta.

There are still seven weeks to go in the regular season, but the playoff picture is really interesting. In the AFC seven teams are either tied for or are within a game of the final wildcard spot. In the NFC, an incredible 7 teams are knotted at 5 wins apiece for the final spot.

Game of the Week

Arizona 25 – Seattle 21
The Arizona Cardinals traveled to the Great Northwest to take on the pride of the Emerald City. The Cards jumped out to an early 13-0 lead but left points on the board as the Seahawk D stiffened near the goal line and held the visitors to three points on two separate red zone occasions. The Hawks got on the board with a long touchdown drive and then Coach Dennis called a perfect double team which led to a long pick 6 and a 14-13 Seahawk lead. Prater put three more on the board for Arizona, allowing the visitors to go in to the half up 16-14. The second half was a back and forth affair. Several punts traded and a field position battle for a while. The Hawks punched a touchdown in to go ahead 21-16 and it looked like that might be enough. But in the fourth, Kyler Murray told himself, “I’m not going to suck in the clutch today” and led his team on a drive that culminated in a bomb to Kirk for six and a 22-21 edge. Murray proved himself correct by getting hold of the ball and not allowing the Seahawks any more chances while running out the clock. It was a challenging game with Coach Dennis making some great third down defensive calls to get the Cardinal offense off the field.
